New style inspiration

Until now, I've never really had a defined, personal "style." My clothing ranges from athleisure and punk, to preppy and (though I hate the word) girly. I've followed trends as they've come and gone, and also brought out some of my own fashion statements. But still, I've never stuck to one style in particular.

Recently, however, I watched the film "La La Land." I will not go into a rant about all of the beauty and magic of the movie, because that would take up a post by itself, but rather I'll focus on how it inspired me and, more specifically, my style.

In the film, Emma Stone is dressed in beautiful old-Hollywood clothing. The classic, timeless style of her character captivated me. I love old Hollywood, retro, vintage, etc, but what I love more is how timeless the fashion feels - it doesn't need to follow trends. I fell in love with the style (and the movie) and I've been inspired to start wearing more classic, romantic clothing just like Mia does.

Now, while of course I'd love to just immediately replace the contents of my closet and fill it with flowy dresses, colorful skirts, and dance-able heels, I sadly cannot. So, for the time being at least, I will very slowly accumulate pieces in that style of clothing and satisfy my desire to dress like Mia 24/7 by just listening to the soundtrack over and over (and over and over) again.

Here are some pieces that I've found - and desperately need in my life - at ASOS and Topshop that capture the way I would like to start dressing! I hope this gives you all some inspiration to either form your own style like I'm beginning to, or to watch "La La Land," because truly, the clothing alone is worth a trip to the theater.
